Welcome to The Land of Oz

Living in the very red Land of Oz(aukee County) can make a person with a leaning to the left really struggle with the realities of daily life. This blog was born out of a frustration with my community's acceptance of injustices. It is not ok with me that racism lurks beneath the surface in the actions of many in our community. It is not ok with me that political expression that is counter to the majority opinion is suppressed and sabotaged, signs slashed and thrown into ditches, lies spread like Dijon mustard across gourmet sandwiches and eagerly devoured. It is not ok with me that individuals in pursuit of their rights as American citizens to petition their government are attacked on our streets, their cameras broken, their bodies bruised - and the courts accuse them of wrong-doing. It is not ok with me that a little old man would totter out of his house to tell someone battered and bruised on the streets of our community that he is glad it happened. It is not ok with me that a Confederate flag flies proudly outside a home on a main street here. It is not ok with me that a restaurant, a community center, any social improvements to our community are attacked by residents who shout out their fears of "those people." It is not ok with me that an organized group of hate-filled citizens attack our schools and our teachers.
I have worked quietly, and often not so quietly, behind the scenes to try and affect change. But injustice grows like a cancer in our community, and it is time to take to the streets of the blogging world and speak out. I am too outraged to stand quietly by any longer.
